Smiling Angel International visited the children’s unit at Tema General Hospital in Ghana on August 12, 2024, where they provided support to five individual families. During the visit, the foundation made generous donations of money to help alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by these families as they care for their children in the hospital. This act of kindness demonstrates the foundation commitment to improving the well-being of children and their families, offering not only financial assistance but also hope and compassion during difficult times. The visit left a positive impact on the families and reinforced the foundation dedication to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable communities.

On August 23, 2024, Smiling Angel International (SAI) visited Kelvin Kodzo a special need child. The organization provided him with much-needed assistance in the form of foodstuffs, diapers, and financial aid, helping to improve his quality of life and ease the burden on his caregivers, especially his parents. The support helps in ensuring his basic needs are met.

Donation to Gillette Children’s Hospital, St. Paul. On February 8, 2024:-SAI team donated 50 blankets and a check to Gillette hospital in St. Paul. Gillette hospital is in the heart of downtown St. Paul and serves children with varied special needs. The staff welcomed the team and expressed appreciation for the gifts. Gillette, served Adelaide, co-founder of SAI, in her developing years and the blankets were to honor the work of the facility as well as the children who spend time in the hospital.

On Thursday August 3, 2023, the team visited Nyamedua Children’s Home, located in the Adenta Municipality of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The Home was primarily set up to give opportunities for children who have been abandoned by their parents because of socio-economic setbacks. Here at Nyamedua, Diapers, Clothing, Food items and Cash were presented to the Management for the upkeep of the Children.

Smiling Angel International Donated Diapers, Clothing, Food items and Cash, during an arranged visit on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, to this Orphanage. Motherly Love was founded about fourteen years ago by Rev. John Azumah, a pastor, who has HIV. His motivation for founding the orphanage is to provide hope for those who have become despondent about their circumstances. Our team was honored to collaborate with this organization, to bring a smile on the faces of the children in this orphanage.

Smiling Angel International (SAI) visited the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf in Mampong-Akwuapem, demonstrating their commitment to supporting educational institutions for individuals with special needs. During the visit, the foundation provided the school with drinking water, school supplies, sanitary pads, and toilet rolls, to help alleviate some of the challenges faced by the students and staff. This contribution is part of SAI’s broader mission to support vulnerable communities, ensuring that the students have access to some necessities, which in turn helps them focus on their education and skill development.

CONCLUSION 

SAI’S plan for the future is to expand its vision to include orphanages and other children’s facilities, through effective collaboration and partnerships, with identified facilities and organizations. Smiling Angel would continue to serve Individual children with special needs, as well as facilitate, promote co-operation and support with other groups in need.

SMILING ANGEL INT. (SAI) – 2021 to 2022 Beneficiary Awards

Victor Tettey

SAI’s first beneficiary is Victor Tettey, who hails from and resides at Anloga in the Volta Region of the Republic of Ghana. He was born on 23rd June, 2009 to the late Festus Kobla Tettey and mother, Celestina Zodanu, a shop attendant and a single mother of three children including Victor.

HIS STORY

Shortly after Victor was born, and after his outdooring ceremony, he experienced an unusual convulsive condition, which graduated each passing day into pronounced and severe temperature abnormality and weakness. This resulted into years of hospital trips and eventually some paralysis in his legs. For over a decade Victor had need for a wheel chair but his mother could not afford one until SAI discovered him in July of 2021.

​

Victor, who is now Twelve years old, has led a life of isolation and underachievement, unable to achieve his potential as a growing child. Due to his disabilities and financial constraints, Victor is not able to participate in any social and community activities and events, His passionate desire and appetite for an education is truncated by his circumstances as his parents cannot afford a fitting wheelchair and schools are not equipped to handle his needs. Victor’s mother, Ms. Celestina Zodanu, also laments how even Care Homes, a special needs school, declined to admit her son. The devastating emotional and psychological impact of this situation of Victor and his family is great and demands attention.

 

NEEDS

Besides the basic needs of love and care, Victor will need more than the wheelchair at this time. He will need clothing age-appropriate toys, friends, and adaptive equipment for his transfers, especially as he gets older.

So far, SAI has donated a wheelchair, food, incontinence supplies to Victor and his mother, in keeping with our mission and vision.

Uriel “Delali “Agorvor

The second beneficiary of Smiling Angel Int. (SAI) is Uriel “Delali “Agorvor, who lives with both parents at Tema, located in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. He was born on 26th June 2015.

HER STORY

Delali was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth. His condition restricted his muscle movements such that it was impossible for him to sit up for any length of time allowing only for him to lie down. Delali, who is now six years old, is not able to have much social interaction, as he is not able to play with friends or attend activities in the community. Delali has a bright future ahead of him if he can get the necessary logistical needs that can help him navigate some of the societal necessities, such as attending school, church and other social events.

​

NEEDS

Apart from the affection and love expected to be shown to Uriel largely, he will need toy materials, clothing and others to provide a back up to his family.

​

SAI, INTERVENTION & SUPPORT

SAI discovered him on 4th August, 2021. So far, SAI has donated a wheelchair, food, incontinent supplies, and small stipend to Delali’s parents, in keeping with our mission and vision.

Emelia Adjetey

The third beneficiary of Smiling Angel Int. (SAI) is Emelia Adjetey, an eight year old girl who lives with her grandmother Ms. Patience at Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

HER STORY

Emilia who has never stepped foot in the classroom and never had

a formal education due to her physical disability which is her

inability to use her hand and legs which impedes her ability to

take a bath or use the bathroom by herself. Shortly after she was

born, her hand and legs were noticed to be unusual. Medical

attention was given and she underwent surgery but her physical

condition did not change much. As a result she is not able to walk

or use one of her arms. She was then left with her grandmother

who has been taking care of her.

​

NEEDS:

Emilia needs a wheel chair to help her mobility, some clothing

and access to formal or vocational education.

 

SAI, INTERVENTION & SUPPORT

SAI discovered her on 13th March, 2022. So far, SAI has donated a new wheelchair, two mini bags of rice, incontinent supplies, and small stipend to Emelia’s grandmother, in keeping with our mission and vision.

SMILING ANGEL INT. (SAI) Beneficiary Awards
 
This year, SAI undertook two projects in line with its mission and international vision.
On the local scene, Sai donated 30 blankets and 30 cases of water to St. Paul Children’s Hospital for distribution to Children in inpatient care at the facility. A couple of the executives of SAI were received by the hospital’s administrator together with other staff for this initiative. The blankets were made by some members of the foundation, with love and prayers for each child who would subsequently receive the blankets.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

International Awards

On the international scene, SAI reached out to children and families in several villages in the Volta Region, on the Southeastern part of Ghana. Three families out of 5, qualified and received assistance from the foundation. Presentation of the gifts to the families occurred on November 30, 2022. Kofi Suetor jr.
Kofi is a 6-year-old boy from the village of Vegolokuati in the Volta Region of the Republic of Ghana.

His story

He lives with his mother, Mawuse, following his father’s
abandonment of the family, due to his condition. 

Suetor’s mother, a petty trader, is economically disadvantaged since she barely makes enough money to feed her son, let alone, being financially able to get his meds and other needed supplies for his upkeep.
Due to his special needs, lack of adequate family finances, and his condition of being unable to walk on his feet, Suetor does not attend school and therefore is not receiving any educational benefits and training.

Sedinam Komatsu

Sedinam, is an eight-year-old boy from VeKoloenu, village in the Volta Region of Ghana. Sedinam was born crippled.

His story

His mother, Esenam, is also a cripple and a single mother. Sedinam’s father abandoned the family while his mom was still pregnant with him, causing undue stress and trauma to the mother. Esenam has no vocation due to

her own disability. Sedinam does not attend school and lacks most of his basic essential needs and support.

Stated Needs and Intervention

Sedinam’s needs are for a wheelchair, clothes and some special vocational training, in the future. SAI has donated a wheelchair, food, and financial assistance to Suetor and his mother, in keeping with our mission and vision.
